According to one of its stars, the next installation in the Star Trek film franchise will capture the spirit of the original telivision series.
Simon Pegg, who plays the Enterprise's engineering chief Scotty, told Comic Book Resources that the next movie will feel more familiar for hardcore fans than the first two. Pegg, who is also a co-writer for Star Trek 3 said that the filmmakers are trying to re-create the sense of adventure from the series for a contemporary audience.
“It's a story about frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun, and that’s where we want to take it, you know, where no man has gone before — where no one has gone before, sensibly corrected for a slighter more enlightened generation,” he said.
Star Trek 3 has undergone a lot of changes since its announcement. The script was completely overhauled recently and has gone through multiple directors after J.J. Abrams stepped down from the role to focus on the new Star Wars project. It was recently reported that Idris Elba is in talks to be the villain for the third installment in the franchise reboot.
Star Trek 3 is slated to arrive in theatres on July 8.
