Spirit Airlines is promoting $69 round trip flights in the most irreverent way we’ve seen from an airline company thus far.
If their objective was to get more people to see the ad, they succeeded, because it’s been trending since it first surfaced. It was so racy some people thought the website might’ve been hacked, but their spokesperson confirmed it was real in another statement.
“We've been waiting to hit 69 planes for years. It's our favorite number - ever since we were twelve and found that magazine under our brother's bed (the one with the fantastic articles). #69 is perfect: just the right size, with a cockpit that's in your face (because it's bright yellow),” the statement reads, Fox News reports.
“Use your mouth to spread the word: Spirit is in an even better position to get you where you're going. We're popping an epic Bare Fare in celebration! $69.00* round trip!”
Spirit Airlines spokesperson N. Paul Berry has since told Minneapolis’ KMSP the ads are real, noting it’s “not atypical for us" to release an ad like this.
“Spirit isn't your typical airline. In most cases different means saving our customers a lot of money on their air travel,” Berry said. “When it comes to advertising, different means we don't spend a lot of money on advertising – because that just increases fares.”
It’s clear the airline company doesn’t take itself too seriously. Case in point:
