More details are emerging about the California teacher who was found dead by her students in an apparent suicide.
The Associated Press noted that officials have said photography instructor Jillian Jacobson, was well liked and popular with her students at El Dorado High School. The 31-year-old, who taught there since 2008, lived in Anaheim and had a master’s degree in educational leadership.
As the Los Angeles Times reported
Jacobson was found hanging from the ceiling inside her classroom early Monday at which point some of her colleagues lowered her to the ground. They then contacted emergency personnel, who pronounced the teacher dead at the scene.
“She appears to have committed suicide prior to the start of school at some point in time,” said Placentia police Lt. Eric Point.
Jacobson’s husband was notified and Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District counselors were on hand at the school.
Some of her students took to social media and expressed their sadness over her death. Many were also part of the hundreds that gathered for a vigil later that evening.
