This is not the news that Oklahoma City Thunder fans wanted or expected to hear, but Kevin Durant has been removed from basketball activities and could miss the remainder of the season.
ESPN reported that on Friday general manager Sam Presti made the announcement and said that Durant’s right foot is not yet at the point they hoped it would be.
"He's not making the progress we'd hoped or expected," Presti said.
The general manger also added the team is leaning toward shutting the reigning MVP down for the rest of the season.
"When he's healthy to play, and when he's able to return without that soreness, he'll be back on the floor,” he said. “If that takes the rest of the regular season, if that takes the rest of the playoffs, that's what it's going to take. As I said before, the health and wellness of our players is the most important thing."
Durant suffered a Jones fracture before the season began and has only participated in 27 games. As previously reported, he underwent surgery on his foot in February. After several evaluations, he was thought to be returning soon.
This is a major blow to OKC. Not only is the team without Durant for the foreseeable future but another key player Serge Ibaka, is out at least a month while he recovers from knee surgery. This means that if the Thunder want to make any type of noise in the playoffs star point guard Russell Westbrook may have to put the team on his back.
