Vincent D’Onofrio must have enjoyed playing the villain in Daredevil. He’s now set to play another villain role, this time in MGM and Sony’s remake of Magnificent Seven.
D’Onofrio is currently in talks for the part, reports Variety. He would join a star-studded cast that already includes Fuqua’s Training Day stars Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. Guardians of the Galaxy’s Chris Pratt is still expected to star.
Sony is co-financing with MGM, which owns the beloved John Sturges 1960 film. Sony is set to distribute, while MGM will still be handling the day-to-day operations.
Magnificent Seven, which was also a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 epic Seven Samurai, centers on a group of gunslingers recruited by a small town to save them from bandits. Steve McQueen and Yul Brynner starred, with Eli Wallach as the leader of the bandits.
John Lee Hancock was the last writer to work on the script.
Fuqua is expected to start filming right after he finishes casting. He does ahave a full slate though, having just made Southpaw and has The Man Who Made It Snow on the docket.
As for D’Onforio, he also has a role as the villain in Jurassic World, opposite PRatt, and plays Kingpin in Netflix’s Daredevil. He was also just seen in Liam Neeson’s Run All Night.
