One person has died and several others were hospitalized in Ohio for what health officials suspect to be botulism.

WBNS-TV reported that the patients fell ill after attending a potluck dinner at a church in Lancaster.

So far one death has been confirmed, at least 15 people are being treated at local hospitals and three are in intensive care. As many as 60 people attended and ate at the function.

On Tuesday evening the Ohio Department of Health said in a release that it "has worked with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to arrange for a botulism anti-toxin to be delivered to Ohio tonight from the strategic national stockpile to be used to treat patients."

The CDC noted that botulism is a rare, food-borne illness caused by eating foods contaminated with a botulinum toxin. Symptoms include vision problems, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, and muscle weakness. It is not contagious.

Lancaster is located about 30 miles outside of Columbus.
