Ten men were sentenced by a Pakistani court Thursday to life in prison for the 2012 attack on Malala Yousafzai.

The AFP reported that a court official in Pakistan confirmed the news saying that "Ten attackers, who were involved in the attack on Malala Yousafzai, have been sentenced to life imprisonment." A life sentence in the country is for 25 years.

Three years ago Yousafzai, who was 15 years old at the time, was shot when the Taliban boarded her school bus. She was shot in the head, but survived and underwent extensive rehab in London.

As The New York Times noted, it wasn’t until September of 2014 that the arrest of the ten men were made. Officials said the gunmen were following orders from alleged Pakistani Taliban leader Maulana Fazlullah when they shot the activist.

Yousafzai became known for her bravery and courage after her ordeal and has since received several highly-coveted awards including the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, an honor she shared with India’s Kailash Satyarthi.
