Authorities have said that five nursing students were killed in a crash on a Georgia interstate Wednesday.
The Associated Press noted that Georgia State Patrol Sgt. 1st Class Chris Nease said the accident happened when a tractor-trailer hit an SUV then rolled over another car, which burst into flames.
The students killed in the wreck have been identified as Emily Clark, 20, of Powder Springs, Morgan Bass, 20, of Leesburg, Abbie Deloach, 21, of Savannah, Catherine “McKay” Pittman, 21, of Alpharetta, and Caitlyn Baggett, 21, of Millen. Megan Richards of Loganville, and Brittney McDaniel of Reidsville, who were both injured in the crash and transported to a local hospital.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that crash occurred around 5:45 a.m., and the woman were on their way to their final clinical of the year at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital.
"The loss of any student, especially in a tragic way, is particularly painful," said Brooks Keel, president of Georgia Southern, where the women attended. "Losing five students is almost incomprehensible."
