Alice Eve has come under fire after a controversial Instagram post, which has since been deleted and replaced with a supportive message to the transgender community.

The Star Trek: Into Darkness star accused Jenner, who revealed he would be going through with a transition to become a woman during an interview with Diane Sawyer that aired Friday, of pretending to be a woman. Her intention was to start a broader conversation about feminism but supports of the transgender community soon fired back.

“If you were a woman no one would have heard of you because woman can’t compete in the decathlon,” she wrote. “You would be a frustrated young athlete who wasn’t given a chance. Until women are paid the same as men, then playing at being a ‘woman’ while retaining the benefits of a man is unfair. Do you have a vagina? Are you paid less than men, Then, my friend, you are a woman.”

Daily News reports Eve, 33, then posted a photo of the persona David Bowie adopted in the ‘70s, Ziggy Stardust, and tried to clear up her intent, writing, “I am a supporter of anyone who wishes to explore their gender identity.”

She even thanked those who responded, who tried to offer a different perspective than hers. “I felt confused and now I feel enlightened and like I know what education I need to move forward,” she wrote.

She intended to start a conversation about feminism but the message got lost in her delivery. As a result, Eve’s comments are being considered transphobic, People reports.
