With Captain America: Civil War beginning production in just a few weeks, Marvel is going to have to select their new Spider-Man pretty soon. Now, we're getting word about who that actor might be.

Last week, we reported on Marvel's apparent short list for actors to play Spider-Man: Nat Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet and Liam James.

Now, Latino Review is reporting that Asa Butterfield is currently Marvel's top pick, saying that he's essentially bagged the role and that Marvel has liked him since day one.

Butterfield is known for his performances as the titular character in Martin Scorsese's Hugo, as well as his role in last year's Ender's Game. Butterfield is 18 years old, and we've heard that Marvel apparently wants a younger actor for Peter Parker this time, as opposed to a 30 year old actor playing a high school kid.

After officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Civil War, Marvel will be giving Spider-Man his own solo film in 2017. It won't be an origin story this time, beginning with Peter Parker already being Spider-Man. Kevin Feige says Marvel is looking to focus on the comedy of Spider-Man this time, emphasizing the character's "non-stop wit." The solo film is currently rumored to be titled Spider-Man: The New Avenger, as we previously reported.

According to The Wrap, a decision is expected to be reached in the next few weeks. Spider-Man will be appearing in Captain America: Civil War, and the actor will be needed on set in June.
