Disney already has an exceptional roaster for its list of players in the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, and that statement grows truer each day, it seems. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who blew up last year thanks to Belle and Beyond the Lights, joins the new movie as Plumette, the feather duster the candle Lumiere adores.
Variety has the casting news. Although Lumiere is not yet cast, it was just a few days ago when Ian McKellen joined the picture as Cogsworth the clock. Also signed on to star are Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as Le Fou, Audra McDonald as Garderobe the wardrobe closet, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, the teapot, and Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle's dad.
Directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls), Beauty and the Beast is slated to start production later this year for a March 17, 2017 release. It comes from a screenplay written by Evan Spiliotopoulos and Stephen Chbosky.
Mbatha-Raw was last seen in Jupiter Ascending earlier this year. She currently films a role in Free State of Jones, which also stars Matthew McConaughey. She'll next be seen in The Whole Truth later this year and alongside Will Smith in Concussion on Christmas day.
