After public outcry over one of their slogans in their “Up for Whatever” campaign, Bud Light has decided to pull the offensive label.
As we previously reported, social media users were outraged when they saw the tagline “The perfect beer for removing ‘no’ from your vocabulary for the night.”
The company did say they regretted it and “would never condone disrespectful or irresponsible behavior.”
According to New York Times, a spokesperson has now confirmed the label, part of 140 “scroll messages” that were printed on bottles, will be pulled effective immediately.
The introduction of Bud Light Lime-A-Rita and Straw-Ber-Rita has grown the company’s outreach to women, so this misstep hits pretty hard.
“It’s clear that this message missed the mark,” said Alexander Lambrecht, vice president for the Bud Light brand at Anheuser-Busch.
The “Up for Whatever” marketing campaign started two years ago and hasn’t been all smoothing sailing. On St. Patrick’s Day, they sent out a tweet that some believed made light of sexual consent which read, “On #StPatricksDay, you can pinch people who don’t wear green. You can also pinch people who aren’t #UpForWhatever.”
