Convicted killer Jodi Arias will be sentenced Monday and find out if she will spend the rest of her life behind bars or be eligible for parole in 25 years.

Reuters noted that a jury could not come to a unanimous decision last month on whether or not Arias’ should be put to death. Now, the fate of the woman convicted in the brutal 2008 murder of Travis Alexander rests in the hands of Judge Sherry Stephens. She can impose a sentence of life in prison for Arias or the possibility of parole after 25 years served.

The Associated Press reported that the Alexander family may address the court prior to sentencing. Arias will also be able to speak to the judge if she chooses.

In 2013, the public became fascinated with Arias’ trial, which detailed a stormy relationship between herself and Alexander, who was found murdered five years earlier. He was stabbed dozens of times, had his throat slit and was shot once in the head.

The defendant claimed that she has battered women’s syndrome and did not remember killing the victim, however, the jury did not buy her story and found her guilty of first-degree murder.

Her life was spared on March 5, when one female juror would not agree to sentence her to death.
