Authorities have said that a convicted murderer in Illinois attacked a guard and stole his uniform and gun before fleeing the prison.

Reuters reported that the prisoner Kamron T. Taylor, escaped the Jerome Combs Detention Center in the county of Kankakee which is located approximately 60 miles from Chicago.

Just after 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, the 23-year-old fugitive allegedly overpowered a guard and escaped with his weapon and uniform.

The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office also said that the inmate took the prison guard’s car keys and drove off in a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. Police found that vehicle abandoned around 8:30 a.m.

The Daily Journal noted that Taylor, who was accused of a 2013 killing, has tried to escape two other times. The farthest he got in the past was just a few blocks.

Several agencies are currently assisting in the search for him. He is described as a 5'9" black male, who weighs about 170 pounds and is considered armed and dangerous.

The guard meanwhile, was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for the injuries he sustained during the attack.
