Authorities said the juvenile son of a Pennsylvania couple found his parents’ bodies mutilated inside their home by a chainsaw.

WPVI reported that police were called to the scene Tuesday afternoon where the bodies of Chris Peppelman, 48, and his wife Nicole, 43, were discovered by their son.

According to investigators, both bodies had deep cuts consistent with that of a chainsaw. Their son said he spotted the chainsaw inside the 3,700-square-foot house.

"The death of the female seems to be an apparent homicide. However, the investigation is continuing," said Kevin Steele, First Assistant District Attorney for Montgomery County. "This is preliminary at this point."

Police also said that they had responded to domestic violence incidents at the home in the past and neighbors admitted they knew the couple had been having some issues.

The Lower Moreland Patch noted that a family friend said the wife and three sons no longer lived with Peppelman at the residence.

The autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday.
