Disney will continue releasing films in IMAX. The Walt Disney Studios and IMAX Corporation announced a new deal this morning that will include the studio’s major releases through 2017.
The deal will include nearly every film Disney plans to release between now and 2017. That includes Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm releases.
“The pairing of high-quality content with premium experiences like IMAX creates an incredible moviegoing experience for audiences,” Disney Studios president Alan Bergman said. “As we look forward to an extraordinary collection of films in the years ahead, The Walt Disney Studios is thrilled to expand our long-term relationship with IMAX to bring the best from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm to some of the most advanced theaters worldwide.”
IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond noted that Disney has been working with IMAX since 2009, releasing 25 films in the large format. “The films in this new agreement promise to continue to provide IMAX audiences the highest-quality films available,” he added.
The new deal covers most of the studio’s 2016 and 2017 releases. That includes Star Wars: Rogue One; Star Wars: Episode VIII; Ant-Man; Captain America: Civil War’ Doctor Strange; Guardians of the Galaxy 2; Thor: Ragnarok; Finding Dory; Toy Story 4; The Finest Hours; Alice in Wonderland: Through The Looking Glass; The Jungle Book and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Disney is releasing Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Age of Ultron in IMAX this year.
