While Baltimore erupted with rioting, real estate mogul Donald Trump was up to his old attention-grabbing habits, giving advice to President Barack Obama on Twitter.
On Monday afternoon, Trump wondered where the National Guard was and called for police to “get tough, and fast” since the “thugs must be stopped.” He also believed that the Baltimore police were just standing and watching, calling their reaction a “lesson on how NOT to handle riots.”
Then, Trump turned his attention to Obama, who he referred to as “Our great African American President” who “hasn’t exactly had a positive impact on the thugs who are so happily and openly destroying Baltimore.”
He also criticized Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and then insisted that Obama make a trip to Baltimore. “Go to Baltimore and bring both sides together. With proper leadership, it can be done!” he wrote this morning.
Before stepping away, he took another jab at the President, writing, “The best social program, by far, is a JOB! Our jobs are being taken away from us by China and many other countries - incompetent leader.”
Last night, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan did declare a state of emergency and called for the National Guard to go to Baltimore. The violent protests came after the funeral of Freddie Gray, who was killed while in police custody.
Here’s Trump’s rant:
