Actress Kelly Rutherford is opening up about her tumultuous six-year custody battle with her ex-husband over their two children, who live with him in France.

Her request to bring the children back to the U.S. to live with her has been denied by a federal court and she’s now telling ABC News it’s just “not right.”

“I know it’s not right. Parents know it. Everyone knows it’s not right,” she said.

A judge in California ordered their two kids; Hermes, 8, and Helena, 5, to live in France with their father, Daniel Giersh, in 2012 and the Gossip Girl star has been fighting to get them back. In 2013 she filed for bankruptcy after exhausting all of her resources on the custody battle.

“I told my son...'You know, mommy is still fighting for you,'" she explained. "My children, not only were they taken away, but they were sent to a foreign country. I don't know how you even explain to someone what it feels like."

Giersh was denied reentry to the U.S., so Rutherford has had to travel to France to be with her kids. His lawyer told ABC he “continues to protect the children from any negativity and therefore will continue to not engage in any of these unfortunate and false media fabrications which only served one person, but clearly not the children.”
