Furious 7 opened early in 12 international markets starting on Wednesday and the film has already made $16.9 million at the international box office.
Deadline reported that with these early international numbers, Furious 7 is likely to out earn Fast & Furious 6 by 60 percent.
The film is currently released in the United States and is playing on over 365 domestic IMAX screens. Furious 7 is getting the biggest release both internationally and externally in Universal's history, The Hollywood Reporter.
Furious 7 features most of the original cast and has been dedicated to Furious star Paul Walker who died in a car crash in November 2013. His death pushed the film back from its original release date to allow the cast and crew time to mourn his loss.
During the L.A. premiere of the film Vin Diesel was overcome with emotion as he introduced the film, saying that it was hard to come back to work but he wanted to do the best he could for his friend, Paul Walker.
