The Longest Ride is going to have a long weekend at the box office, since Furious 7’s gas tank is still not empty. The latest Nicholas Sparks adaptation is doing as well as previous films based on his books, but that is far too little to make a dent in Furious 7.
Early screenings of the Fox film, which features Clint Eastwood’s son Scott Eastwood in his first starring role, on Thursday grossed $625,000. As TheWrap repots, that is better than the previous sparks movie, The Best of Me, which grossed $525,000 from early screenings. That movie ended up finishing with a $10 million opening, the worst ever for a Sparks movie.
Analysts do thing Longest Ride will at least do better than The Best of Me. The Hollywood Reporter notes that it should finish between $13 million and $14 million.
That’s pretty good, but Furious 7 is still playing like a summer blockbuster. Even if it falls 60 percent, that would still put its second weekend at around $60 million. The film is also looking to hit $700 million worldwide by the end of the weekend.
