Today’s Google Doodle might look a little strange, but if you look closer, you will recognize that little dinosaur-like thing at the top of the submarine. It’s the Loch Ness Monster, or at least what the mythical monster is supposed to look like.

April 21 marks the 81st anniversary of the famous “Surgeon’s Photograph,” which was published in 1934. While it is the most iconic photo of the creature and was revealed to be a hoax. But that hasn’t stopped people fascinated with the legend from trying to find a real monster in the Scottish lake. Last year, Apple Maps users who are members of the Official Loch Ness Monster Fan Club were convinced that they had found it.

Indeed, Google itself joined the hunt today. The company posted Google Street View photos of Loch Ness, including one image that did include some really strange things popping up from the lake. Google worked with the Loch Ness & Morar Project for its search.

Here’s Google’s video of the search:

Today would also be a good day to check out Billy Wilder’s underrated film The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, since the film’s central mystery includes a possible Loch Ness Monster.
