An Indiana pizza shop is closing its doors after coming under fire for supporting the state's controversial religious freedom law.
Mediaite reports that Memories Pizzeria in Walkerton, Indiana is shutting down after heavy public criticism. Kevin O'Connor, the shop's owner, says he's received a number of prank calls and even death threats after making it clear that the restaurant would refuse to cater a gay couple's wedding. The issues started after O'Connor defended his stance on a local news show.
“That's a lifestyle that you choose,” he told the station. “I choose to be heterosexual. They choose to be homosexual. You can't beat me over the head with something they choose to be.”
O'Connor is not without his supporters. According to the New York Daily News, an online fund started by a conservative radio show has raised over $33,000 for the pizza shop after hearing of its closing.
O'Connor says he's not sure if or when the pizzeria will open again.
