David Spade really did make a second Joe Dirt movie and it will be released on Sony’s Crackle streaming channel this summer.
Sony first announced Joe Dirt 2 in May 2013 and confirmed in October 2014 that the Happy Madison production would be released exclusively on Crackle. Now, the film has a trailer.
Running just 46-seconds long, it just features a few gags from the movie. It’s actually a time travel movie, as Joe is transported to the past and has to find his way to 2015 to be with his family.
“Joe ‘Keeps on keepin’ on,’” Spade told Entertainment Weekly. “He’s married now and doing his best, but things don’t all go perfectly for him, as usual. Like he says in the movie, when he gets a setback, ‘I just keep getting stupider.’”
Spade said that he’s always been a fan of the original film and that many fans ask him about a sequel. “Joe is a fun character to play. I’m stoked for everyone to see it,” he said.
Christopher Walken, Brittany Daniel, Dennis Miller, Adam Beach and Mark McGrath co-star. Fed Rolf, who directed the original film and Grown Ups returned to direct.
Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser will be posted on Crackle this summer.
