Just like most Jurassic Park fans, Colin Trevorrow really doesn't care about The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3 for his upcoming sequel.
In an interview with Yahoo, Colin Trevorrow said that Jurassic World is a direct sequel to Jurassic Park and won't take the sequels into account. They aren't being written out of the continuity, he said, as much as they are being placed to the side.
This makes sense, as the two Jurassic Park sequels take place in an entirely different location. The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3 take place on Isla Sorna, a separate island where the dinosaurs were cloned and nursed, whereas the actual Jurassic Park is on Isla Nublar.
So based on what Trevorrow said, those sequels are canon, but he doesn't seem to care much about them, and we shouldn't really expect World to follow up with what happened in those movies. Probably don't expect any reference to those pterodactyls that flat out escaped and flew out into the world at the end of Jurassic Park 3, then.
The movie does look like it will have plenty of references to the original film, though. Trevorrow recently revealed to Hero Complex that the T-Rex from the original film will be appearing in World, now 22 years older and a whole lot angrier.
Jurassic World follows up two decades after the original film and revolves around Dr. Hammond's original Jurassic Park vision becoming a reality. It stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jake Johnson and Ty Simpkins. The film will hit theaters on June 12.
