An Israeli Orthodox Jewish website has taken down an image of Kim Kardashian on its news site, claiming that the star is a “pornographic symbol.”
Prior to removing the photo, the website, Kikar HaShabbat, had refused to acknowledged Kardashian in the photo of her and husband Kayne West dining with the Jerusalem mayor. It was altered to conceal the reality star. Her name was not used and she was referred to as “Kanye West’s wife.”
On Wed. April 15, the website’s editor, Nissim Ben Haim, explained that the image was removed based upon the reality’s star goes against the religious values of the Jewish Orthodox people. The editor said in an article, which Us Weekly translated from Hebrew to English, "Within the insular Ultra-Orthodox community, pictures of women often aren't shown out of modesty."
The mayor was also shamed by the news outlet for the photo. The site claimed that the mayor was “insensitive” for taking the stars to a non-kosher restaurant. The site claimed it was insensitive because "the majority of city residents keep kosher.” The mayor, however, did not take part in the non-kosher portions of the meal. Meanwhile, West and Kardashian enjoyed buttered chicken au gratin.
Mayor Karkat later announced that from the dinner he had chosen to ask the celebrity couple to serve as Jerusalem’s ambassadors. The mayor took to Facebook to share a photo of him with the couple, captioning the photo, “Raising a glass to Jerusalem with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West! I asked them to serve as Jerusalem’s ambassadors and spread the word that Jerusalem is an open city and welcomes everyone."
While also in the Holy Land, the couple had 22-month-old daughter, North, baptized. Along with sister Khloe Kardashian, Kardashian and West visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
