Sugarland member, Kristian Bush is speaking out about how he overcame his divorce and other tragedies that impacted his life. Now Bush is moving forward and has released a solo country effort, Southern Gravity.
Taste of Country reported that this is the first time that Bush has spoken publicly following a tragic stage collapse that took place a Sugarland concert back in 2011 at the Indiana State Fair. The collapse killed seven people and left hundreds injured.
Bush spoke to Rolling Stone Country and explained that after the incident took place both he and his bandmate, Jennfer Nettles were told not to talk to anyone. "There was nobody to call, nobody to talk to. Legally, no one knew what to do. They said, ‘Look, you’ve got to be quiet.’ So that’s what I did. This literally might be the first time I’ve talked to a person I’m not related to about it," explained Bush.
Bush said that it was hard to not reach out to fans, especially those who had been close to the stage because they wanted to be up close and personal with the band. A settlement has been reached with victims and their families, so now both Bush and Nettles can speak out about the incident.
Following the tragedy three months later, Bush and his wife Jill filled for divorce. The couple had been together for 12 years. He explained that because of these major life changing efforts, this album has a different meaning.
"The brightness and the light and the joy of this album all of a sudden have a whole lot more weight when you put it into context of, it was not joyous, it was not light, it was heavy. So finding these songs and writing them, recording them, it was like post-it notes that you’ve been leaving on your mirror to just get through the heavy and the silence and the crap of starting again," said Bush.
