In a recent Twitter rant, singer Lilly Allen gave her opinion about Jay Z’s new music stream service, Tidal.
Jay Z held a press conference for Tidal earlier this week where he was joined by stars such as Kanye West, Beyonce, Daft Punk, Chris Martin and Madonna, MusicNews.com notes.
Tidal is trying to break themselves apart from other streaming services such as Spotify by allowing artist who join to see more return than they would with another streaming service.
“My concern is that Tidal may set emerging artists back," Allen tweeted. "Hosting exclusive [content] from the biggest stars on the planet on a paying platform, while I agree with its intention, I fear it will send people back to pirate/torrent sites."
It seems that a tweet where Tidal’s official Twitter page said that 75 percent of the monthly subscriptions are passed to music labels and then distributed to artists and songwriters really upset Allen, E! News notes.
"Wow so if you're a Co owning artist you see a cut of the 25% profit, and let's face it, probably a larger chunk of the 75% than most artists,” Allen continued.
Allen also had a bone to pick with the Tidal 16, which consists of 16 co-owners such as Kanye West and Madonna, because they would be making more money than other artists who sign up to for the service later on, according to MusicNews.com.
The 29-year-went on to defend Spotify saying she doesn’t think they are ripping artists off, adding that Tidal is denying people the freemium option and giving more money to major labels.
