You might never want to go to your grandparents’ house again, at least for a sleepover, after you see The Visit. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan and produced by Blumhouse, the new film shows the scary side of grandma.
The film marks a return to low-budget horror for Shyamalan, who made a name for himself with The Sixth Sense and Signs. While he has become a bit of a punchline around Hollywood thanks to recent big-budget flops, his admirable determination has finally brought him back to his roots. Between The Visit and Fox’s Wayward Pines, it’s clear that he wants to do what he does best - make audiences uncomfortable and scared.
In The Visit, two young children go to their grandparents’ house on a Pennsylvania farm. There, they are told never to leave their rooms after 9:30. Of course, this is a horror movie and they are children, so they don’t listen. They end up learning the truth, even though their mom (Kathryn Hahn) doesn’t think it’s a big deal. Then again, she didn’t see their grandma tell them to get in an oven.
The Visit hits theaters on Sept. 11. As for Wayward Pines, that kicks off on Fox on May 14.
