My family and I recently took a trip down to Cancun, Mexico, to explore its culture and of course enjoy their beautiful weather. We stayed at the all inclusive Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort which is located just south of the Cancun International Airport. It is so sprawling it is like its own city; you never have to leave.
The resort is beautiful and very tropical. The lobby, or main building, is vast and holds many of the restaurants and night clubs. The rooms are spread out in three different sections: Sunrise, Nizuc and Moon Grand.
We stayed in a junior suite in the Sunrise section. The Sunrise section was comprised of many three story buildings that were named after various tropical fruits. We stayed in the pineapple section. The building hallways ended in the open air which added to its charm.
Our suite was very comfortable and beautifully appointed with many amenities including plush robes and luxury linens. It had two balconies as well. Our room was stocked daily with alcohol and other refreshments and also came with a whirlpool tub as well as large shower. It had double sinks and a walk in closet. We could have moved in!
The service at the Moon Palace was truly excellent. The staff made you feel like you were a part of their family. You could tell that they enjoyed working at Moon Palace and were eager to share their knowledge.
The outdoor pool area had something for everyone. There was a children’s pool and a Flowrider. Staff members were there to entertain you, whether it be through pool games or arts and crafts. Drinks were flowing, music was playing - it was a party! Some restaurants were located pool side so you didn’t have to go far for lunch. The beautiful beach was, of course, only steps away with its own bar as well.
The resort boasts two finer dining options: La Trattoria serving Italian and Riviera Maya serving authentic Mayan cuisine. Both these restaurants were on the golf course, needed reservations and a golf cart ride to get to but well worth it.
La Trattoria served what I would call more of a modern Italian menu with twists on classics and was absolutely delicious! The Mayan cuisine was truly spectacular and rare to find anywhere else. My fish was perfectly seasoned. The Lima Soup was delicious as well.
The restaurants decor was attractive as well with many traditional bright colors. Our Mayan server told us that it is as close to home as it gets. What makes these two restaurants stand out besides their cuisine is the level of service. There was always a server ready to assist and they seemed to magically be able to anticipate all your needs.
Don’t have a reservation? No worries! There is a restaurant that serves whatever you want be it Italian, Asian, Caribbean, Brazilian or a good old steak. The restaurants do fill up quickly during peak travel weeks so make sure you arrive early to get seated quickly. 24 hour room service is also available as well as places where you can grab a quick sandwich.
The resort’s spa was large but didn’t lose its warm feel. I treated myself to a massage which was very pampering. Hydrotherapy amenities are complimentary with a treatment as well. Our daughter enjoyed “The Playroom” which had anything your 4-12 year old would desire. It had a large outdoor playground, video games, dress up room for your little princesses, and a theater for watching movies. The children were expertly supervised, and our daughter did not want to leave! There is also a club for teens named “Wired” and “Noir” for the adults.
There were so many other amenities like nightly shows and even concerts in the neighboring area. You can not get bored at Moon Palace as there is always something going on to keep you busy if you get tired of lounging by the pool with a drink in hand.
