South Korea’s president vowed on Thursday to raise the sunken ferry, but that announcement did little to settle the anger of relatives who are unhappy about the handling of last year’s disaster.

The Daily Mail noted that as mourners marked the grim one-year anniversary of the sunken Sewol ferry, President Park Guen-hye said that she would have it raised.

"I will take the necessary steps to salvage the ship at the earliest possible date," she said during her visit to the island of Jindo near where the ferry went down.

Her announcement did not do much for family members of the victims as many said they are unsatisfied with her handling of the tragedy and hold the government responsible for what happened.

As previously reported, one year ago, the Sewol ferry was doing a transit luncheon when it sank. Most of the more than 300 people killed were high school students on a field trip.
Their bodies have been recovered from the water, but nine people are still missing. The boat’s captain, chief engineer, ferry operator and other crew members escaped while the passengers were told to stay on board. They have all since been arrested.
