Mumford & Sons is adding their name to the growing list of artists that aren't supporting Jay-Z's new music streaming service, Tidal. The service is being described as by-the-artist-for-the-artist service.
In an interview with The Daily Beast Marcus Mumford, frontman for Mumford & Sons, explained that they had not been invited the service but wouldn't have joined it anyway. "I think smaller bands should get paid more for it, too. Bigger bands have other ways of making money, so I don’t think you can complain. A band of our size shouldn’t be complaining. And when they say it’s artist-owned, it’s owned by those rich, wealthy artists," said Mumford.
He went on to say that, "What I'm not into is the tribalistic aspect of it—people trying to corner bits of the market, and put their face on it. That's just commercial bulls--t."
E! Online added that he is not the first artist to speak out again the service, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie and Jennifer Lopez are not taking part in Tidal.
