Authorities said that a Long Island cardiologist was arrested and charged with several counts relating to a murder-for-hire plot of his former partner.
LongIsland.com reported that Dr. Anthony J. Moschetto, 54, a Great Neck cardiologist from Sands Point, has been charged with a slew of charges in the alleged murder plot against Dr. Martin Handler. The charges include several counts of conspiracy, criminal sale of a firearm, criminal sale of a prescription for a controlled substance, arson and burglary.
The Associated Press noted that prosecutors allege that Moschetto hired two men to torch his Handler’s office then injure and eventually kill him.
"He was willing to pay $5,000 to have him beaten and put in the hospital for a couple of months and pay $20,000 to have him killed," said Nassau County Assistant District Attorney Anne Donnelly.
She added that Moschetto’s intentions were “to put him out of business so he could get his business."
Moschetto has plead not guilty.
Two other defendants James Chmela, 43, and James Kalamaras, 41, were also arrested for their alleged involvement in the plot.
