A man in North Carolina, who is accused of fatally shooting his pregnant girlfriend over the weekend, is due in court Monday.

WTVD noted that Daniel Joseph Steele, 25, allegedly shot his pregnant girlfriend Kimberly Dianne Richardson, also 25, around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday near a mall in Raleigh.

After the victim was shot, she was able to make a brief call to the police.

"Help, I've been shot ... I can't talk ... he shot me ... please hurry,” Richardson told the 911 dispatcher as she lay dying.

Richardson was transported to a local hospital where she died, however, doctors were able to save her baby girl.

WRAL reported that Steele was arrested a short time later at his home and charged with first-degree murder.

The location of the fatal shooting was not far from a Zales jewelry store where Richardson currently worked and Steele used to work as a security guard.

Police have not yet said what sparked the fatal shooting.
