For the most part, Paul Feig's upcoming, all-female Ghostbusters reboot has a lot of eager viewers ready. Based on Sony's planned budget for the film, however, they will really want a lot of people to show up. New reports reveal the budget for the new action/comedy is at least $154 million, and that's after it had to be taken down a notch or two.
This production price tag comes from The Hollywood Reporter. This does not include marketing or advertising costs, which will cost twice as much, and this is after Feig had to tone his production down from $169 million. Feig tweaked the screenplay to make it fit to these production changes, and while Sony's new studio chief wanted the production to be in the $150 range, he ultimately agreed to the slightly bigger price.
The original $169 million production comes from when Amy Pascal was in charge, before she left the company. It apparently includes $14 million for Melissa McCarthy and nearly $10 million for Feig. These are fees Rothman couldn't do anything to change, apparently.
Feig's Ghostbusters is slated to come to theaters on July 22, 2016, with production expected to begin this summer. There's still no word when the other Channing Tatum-starring Ghostbuster is either to get in front of cameras or start production, or what it's price tag would be. Both films, however, are part of a new Ghostbusters cinematic universe in the works.
As a writer/director, Feig's latest film, Spy, comes to theaters June 5. As a producer, meanwhile, he has The Peanuts Movie coming to screens on November 6. He also is attached to a Play-Doh movie.
