Quinnipiac University president John L. Lahey attended a party over the weekend and encouraged the crowd of students to continue partying and drinking. The university students were elated with his visit, but the non-student residents who live in the area certainly were not.

Inside Higher Ed reported that when Lahey made his impromptu appearance he was captured on video saying things like the school should buy up more houses in the neighborhood. And, that kind of party was like the ones he tried to ban years ago.

No one is really sure why the president chose to show up, but his comments were so well received by the students that they started chanting his name. The residents who live near where the party took place on the other hand, were less than pleased.

The New Haven Register noted that the town’s Mayor James Pascarella said he has gotten a large number of complaints about what Lahey was heard saying in the video.

“Our goal in town/gown relations is to discourage this type of behavior in residential neighborhoods,” Pascarella said. “I am disappointed and concerned that this action is sending the wrong message on a variety of issues. I am hopeful that President Lahey will be reaching out to us in the very near future to review these matters and proceed on a productive course.”

Some residents are calling for Lahey to be fired, but the university has not yet announced any disciplinary action.
