When the primary plot of your film involves Nicolas Cage on the hunt to track Osama bin Laden, you already have a pretty bonkers tale. Throw Russell Brand, Rainn Wilson, Ken Marino, Denis O'Hare and Paul Scheer into the mix, though, and you may possibly have one of the most deliciously crazy movies to come in the near future, which would be Army Of One.
As Deadline writes, these actors are slated to round out the cast for Larry Charles' (Borat) new movie. They also join Wendi McLendon-Covey, who hoped onto the comedy in February, as The Hollywood Reporter covered at the time. She plays Cage's character's girlfriend.
Cage boarded the comedy back in January. He plays Gary Faulkner, a real man who left his handyman job in Colorado when he received a vision to go to Pakistan and capture bin Laden. Army Of One is based loosely on an article written by Chris Heat for GQ of the same name.
Charles' new movie comes from a screenplay written by Scott Rothman and Rajiv Joseph (Draft Day), although it's described as a "semi-scripted project," much like Charles' other films. It will be distributed by The Weinstein Company. Plans are to start production this spring for a release later this year. Initial plans had shooting begin in March, but obviously that didn't come to pass.
