Several passengers were injured Monday when a Megabus out of Chicago crashed in Indiana.
FOX59 reported that the crash occurred in Johnson County, along Interstate 65 around 5:30 a.m. and more than a dozen people on the bus were hurt.
The Chicago Tribune has put the number of those injured in the accident as high as 19. The passengers were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
“We were braking and we didn’t brake fast enough,” one passenger recalled. “We tried to swerve off, but she didn’t swerve fast enough I guess, which is actually good because the front right of our bus hit the back left of the semi, and I think that kept us from flipping.”
The bus was traveling from the Windy City to Atlanta and the crash caused a backup on the Interstate that stretched for miles. Motorists were urged to find alternate routes for the morning commute.
The driver of the vehicle has been fully cooperating with the authorities and the Megabus company is aware of the crash.
