Sony is down to a small group of actors to chose from to play Peter Parker in the first Spider-Man movie that will be produced with Marvel. The group includes high-profile young actors like Hugo star Asa Butterfield and The Fault In Our Stars’ Nat Wolff.

The shortlist was reported by TheWrap, which stressed that none of the actors have even received offers for tests yet. However, the site checked with multiple sources who said that Wolff and Butterfield are among the five contenders for the role.

The other three actors are Timothee Chalamet, who played Matthew McConaughey’s son in Interstellar; Tom Holland, who recently appeared in PBS’ Wolf Hall; and The Way Way Back star Liam James.

Marvel and Sony, which officially struck a deal in February, will likely make a decision within the next couple of weeks. There isn’t much of a rush though, since a Spider-Man won’t be needed until June, when Spidey’s scenes in Captain America: Civil War will be filmed.

Drew Goddard is still on the list to direct the new film, after all the work he put in for Sony’s unrealized Amazing Spider-Man universe. It is expected that Peter Parker will be in high school and the comedy will be played up in the first Marvel/Sony solo Spidey movie.

Captain America: Civil War will open on May 6, 2016 and will feature the debut of the new Spider-Man. The solo movie is scheduled for July 2017. There is also going to be an animated film in 2018.
