The cast for Star Wars: Rogue One is finally taking shape, just days after we learned what it will be about. Riz Ahmed, who dealt with Jake Gyllenhaal’s crazy orders in Nightcrawler is in talks for a part, while The Hunger Games’ Sam Claflin is in talks for another important role.
Sources for Variety said that Ahmed is up for a big role, likely as a Rebel soldier. The Four Lions actor met with director Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) last month in London and worked well with Felicity Jones.
Meanwhile, TheWrap reports that Claflin is being considered for another part, but doesn’t have it just yet. While he has starred in The Hunger Games, Snow White and the Huntsman and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, this would be his first big role in a major tentpole.
Jones (The Theory of Everything) remains the only other confirmed star for the film. Ben Mendelsohn (Netflix’s Bloodline) was linked to the film last month.
On the last day of last weekend’s Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm and Disney revealed that Rogue One is a heist film, centering on the team of Rebels who stole the Death Star plans before A New Hope. It will be released under the Anthology banner and hits theaters in December 2016.
