Authorities in Spain have said that a student killed a teacher and attacked several other students at a high school in Barcelona on Monday.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the attack took place just after 9 a.m. when a 13-year-old male student at Joan Fuster High School walked into a classroom and allegedly shot a crossbow at a teacher.

Yelling was heard in a nearby classroom and when that instructor went to see what the commotion was, the student allegedly attacked and killed him with a weapon that had a blade. Students said the teacher killed was a substitute.

Four other students were then allegedly attacked by the boy, but their injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

The Associated Press noted that Jose Miguel Company, spokesman for the Barcelona prosecutor's office, said the student who allegedly carried out the attacks was taken to a facility for a psychiatric evaluation.

"He was very disturbed and saying strange and incoherent things," Company said.

He will be tested to determine whether or not he indeed does have psychiatric issues or if he was faking them.

Because he is under the age of 14, authorities said he will not face criminal charges in the case.
