Country superstar Tim McGraw is standing by his decision to have a benefit concert for the Sandy Hook Promise. The benefit concert will be taking place on July 17th at XFinity Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut but gun right advocates are not happy with McGraw's decision. Billy Currington will be the opening act for the benefit concert and also addressed the controversy.

Many gun rights advocates took to their social media accounts and said that McGraw was a hypocrite for appearing at the event, Fox News reported.

Currington took to his Facebook page and said that he's "never been one to take on controversial issues." He went on to say that he supports the right of everyone but really wants to focus on the benefit and supporting the Sandy Hook Promise.

McGraw released a statement to the Washington Post and said that he does support gun rights but feels that it requires more training and education. "The concert is intended to help the community," said McGraw.
