U2 frontman Bono was seriously injured in a biking accident in New York City in November and is still recovering. In his first statements on the injury since January, the singer said that he is still unable to play guitar and it even feels like he has “somebody else’s hand.”
Bono broke his elbow, shoulder, left hand and eye socket during the accident in Central Park. In a January blog post, Bono said that he doubted he would ever be able to play guitar again.
In an interview with the New York Times about the group’s upcoming “Innocence and Experience” tour, Bono said that he is still recovering.
“It feels like I have somebody else’s hand,” Bono said. He still can’t bend his fourth finger and pinky. His left forearm is still numb and his elbow is titanium. But it’s his hand that is the hard part.
“But this is the hard bit because I can’t play guitar,” Bono said. Looking at the other members of the group, Bono said, “They don’t seem to mind.”
After all, Bono isn’t known for playing guitar. That’s up to lead guitarist The Edge.
U2’s tour for the album Songs of Innocence begins on May 14 in Vancouver and includes an eight-night stand at Madison Square Garden in July. All of those shows are already sold out. The group is also touring Europe in the fall.
