Sunday night at the MTV Movie Awards, Vin Diesel came out on stage as the presenter for Best Female Performance. No one was expecting what followed after his entrance. Just as the intro music cut, Diesel belted “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth, the song featured in Furious 7, in honor of close friend and coworker, Paul Walker.
The portion the Fast and Furious star sang goes like this: “It’s been a long day without you my friend/And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again..,”
He then proceeded to shout, “I love you guys!” as the crowd cheered in reverence at the heartfelt message, just before announcing Shailene Woodley as the winner.
Diesel let MTV in on the backstory to why he chose to sing on the Movie Awards stage. “It’s for my 4-year-old (Vincent). He’s been singing that song pretty intensely, and whenever Michelle, or Nathalie, or Tyrese are over at the house, he sings it for them and they start crying,” he said. “So it was an homage to the little one at home.” This isn’t the first instance where Vin incorporated both his children and Walker in a life event. On March 16, he dedicated the name of his newborn daughter to Paul Walker in naming her Pauline, Us Weekly confirmed.
Furious 7 opened April 3 with sales totaling $252.2 million only after the second weekend.
