Nepalese authorities announced on Friday the grim news that three bodies have been found near the wrecked U.S. Marine helicopter that went missing earlier this week and crashed into a mountainside.

The Sydney Morning Herald noted that while only three bodies of out the eight on board have been found so far, it is not likely that anyone survived the crash.

“As the helicopter has broken into pieces and totally crashed there is no chance of any survivors," said Nepal's Defense Secretary Iswori Poudyal. He added that the remains had been charred.

The discovery of the wreckage was located by Nepalese troops on the ground; they along with two U.S. Hueys and Indian choppers, were involved in the search for the helicopter.

The other Marines reportedly identified the chopper as the UH-1Y Huey, which went missing on Tuesday. The copter was carrying six U.S. Marines and two Nepalese soldiers as it was delivering aid to victims of the latest earthquake.

As previously reported, a devastating 7.3-magnitutude earthquake struck Nepal on Tuesday. It was the second large earthquake to hit the country in less than three weeks.
