At least four people have died and another 12 are still missing after powerful storms caused massive flooding in Texas and Oklahoma over the weekend.
CNN reported that the severe weather is to blame for at least one death in Texas and three in Oklahoma. The flooding has also left 12 missing in Hays County in Texas.
The Associated Press noted that those missing were believed to be gathered at one house, which was swept away by the rushing waters before it slammed into a bridge.
“When you hit a bridge moving at 35-40 [mph] on the river, it’s equivalent to a 70 [mph] head-on [collision],” said Hays County Judge Bert Cobb.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott placed dozens of counties across the Lone Star State under an emergency disaster declaration. In addition, the National Weather Service declared a flash-flood emergency in Houston where some fans who attended Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals were stuck at the Toyota Center until Tuesday morning.
The same storm system wreaked havoc south of the border as well in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico. The system spawned a tornado which killed at least 13 people and injured around 200.
