Pitch Perfect 2 hits theaters this weekend and even the stars of the original film are still surprised that a sequel got made. Anna Kendrick said this morning that she really didn’t think it would happen, but had to do it once Universal green-lit it.
“There were so many rumors of a sequel for a long, long time — like a full year after the movie — it just didn't feel like it was really going to happen,” Kendrick said on The Today Show this morning. “So I was sort of running around going, 'That's not going to happen ... because movies have made more money and have not gotten sequels.'”
However, when it became clear that Pitch Perfect 2 was going to happen and she heard that everyone else was signing on, Kendrick didn’t want to feel left out.
“It really wasn't until all the girls signed on that I was like, 'Well it would be so crazy if they were all doing it and I wasn't there,’” she said. “I would be having big time Pitch Perfect FOMO [fear of missing out]."
How about a Pitch Perfect 3, though? Rebel Wilson is already set to make one, but Kendrick told Time last week that she’d like to see how PP2 does first.
“I’m not one to count my chickens, so I just want to see how this one does and find out if there’s an appetite for that before I even think about it,” Kendrick told Time. “I’ll drive myself crazy.”
