Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron failed to reach historic levels at home this weekend, but don’t weep for Disney and Marvel just yet. The studio now owns the top three highest grossing opening weekends in film history.

The film got off to a fast start Friday with over $27 million in one day, but its take-off on Saturday was slightly lower than expected. That was probably due to all the sports events going on during the day, from the drama-filled Clippers/Spurs NBA game to the Manny Pacquiao/Floyd Mayweather fight.

In the end, Ultron finished with $187.7 million in North America. That’s surprisingly lower than 2012’s The Avengers, which debuted with $207.4 million. Still, it’s the second-highest opening of all time. The film in the No. 3 slot is Iron Man 3, which opened with $174.1 million in May 2013.

Ultron also made up a whopping 85 percent of the total Top 12 revenue, which is a new record, notes BoxOfficeMojo. The film’s audience was also 59 percent male and 59 percent under 25. The audience gave it an A CinemaScore grade, which is a bit lower than the A Avengers earned.

And Ultron will have strong legs. Avengers finished its run with $623.4 million in North America and Ultron should be able to hit that level.

Lionsgate’s The Age of Adaline came in a very distant second, adding only $6.3 million. Furious 7 fell to third with just $6.1 million. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 made $5.5 million, while Home rounded out the Top 5 with $3.3 million.

Internationally, Ultron added another $168 million, bringing its worldwide total to $626.6 million... and it still hasn’t opened in China. The film hits China on May 12.
