Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron dominated the worldwide box office and set a record for IMAX showings, bringing in over $25.2 million. Now the comic book franchise is looking to continue their reign with Avengers: Infinity War and expanding their relationship with the large format theater. All of Infinity War will be shot using IMAX cameras.

In a statement released by IMAX, the company explained that the two-part project will be shot entirely using IMAX and AARI's next generation revolutionary 2D digital cameras.

As previously reported, the production schedule for Infinity War will be over nine months. The entire film will be shot together and later split into two parts.

This will be the most use of IMAX cameras for a motion picture. Christopher Nolan used IMAX cameras for portions of The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises but this will be the first time that an entire motion picture is being shot using IMAX cameras.

Joe and Anthony Russo are signed on to direct Infinity War and will be helming the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. The directors will be getting a feel for how the cameras work as they are filming portions of the action sequences for Civil War on the same cameras. Civil War will be released in May of 2016.

Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President at IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment expressed his excitement about the upcoming Marvel project and how he things the technology will elevate the storytelling and that the Russo Brothers are filmmaking trailblazers.

"Over the years, IMAX has had the incredible good fortune to work with some of the world's finest, most talented filmmakers, who continue to push the envelope both technically and creatively. We could not be more excited to deepen our partnership with Joe and Anthony Russo, a pair of filmmakers we believe are next-generation trailblazers. Marvel's Avengers franchise has become a global phenomenon and to have it pay off in this epic way using the IMAX/ARRI digital camera is the very definition of event movie-going," explained Greg Foster.

Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 will be released in IMAX theaters on May 4, 2018 with the conclusion coming on May 3, 2019.
