NBC is reportedly trying to work out a deal in which they will keep Brian Williams on the network, although he may not be on as anchor.
According to CNN Money, Williams and NBC have been negotiating for weeks on whether he should stay with the network after his controversial reporting created headlines.
Chairman for NBC News, Andy Lack, reportedly wants to figure out a new role within the network for Williams a source said.
Meetings were held in which a source said Lack had asked the people involved to “think creatively” when it came to putting Williams in a new role that would not see him as anchor for NBC Nightly News.
Another possibility for Williams would be for him to leave the network entirely, which would mean he would receive a payout for his contract, which is reportedly worth an estimated $10 million a year over the course of five years.
Williams has not commented on the controversy due to being under contract with NBC, who also told him not to address the situation publicly.
Lester Holt took over Williams’ seat as anchor for Nightly News after Williams was suspended.
An investigation was launched after it was revealed he had fabricated a story during his time reporting the Iraq War.
