A woman battling cancer shared a photo of an abnormality on her breast to remind women to get themselves checked and that image has since gone viral.
The Daily Mail noted that Lisa Royle posted the picture of a dimple she found on her left breast to Facebook in hopes of raising awareness of the potential signs of the disease. As of Wednesday, that photo had been shared over 55,000 times with more than 32,000 likes.
The 42-year-old posted the image on May 11 prior to getting a mastectomy.
"I never thought I would post a boob picture on Facebook, but I thought I would before it gets chopped off next week,” she wrote. "So here it is. This all that I found on my boob. Very subtle dimples underneath that could easily be missed when we're all rushing round getting ready in a morning. Please take time to look at your boobs. It could save you’re [sic] life."
Her husband, Craig, said that his wife is doing well after undergoing the surgery.
Another story on this topic went public this week when FOX News reported that Sarit Fishbaine said watching Grey’s Anatomy actually convinced her to go back to her doctor. Fishbaine said that an episode about a woman having a mastectomy after a misdiagnosis was her whole reasoning for another visit. At that visit, she was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer.
So whether it’s a post on social media or a T.V. show, whatever works ladies please remember to get a breast exam and mammogram.
